Unmentioned update in iPhone 2.2

Posted on November 22nd, 2008 | Under iPhone | No Comments »

Well, I am not going in details about all the features and updates that come with iPhone 2.2 firmware, but I discovered an update that is yet to be mentioned on any blog or site as far as I know.

Prior to 2.2, whenever you do an update on installed app, it will trigger a new app icon followed by downloading and installation after that the new app icon will be merged with the existing app icon. In 2.2, updating an app does not follow that process anymore instead it will just do over the top of existing app.

On top of that, 2.2 makes my phones more responsive and faster, although how I wish it has copy/paste feature…but I guess Apple is reinventing it

Upcoming WordPress Theme

Posted on November 20th, 2008 | Under Diana, WordPress | (1) Comment »

Well, above is sneak peek of my upcoming WordPress theme which is currently in the process. If everything goes well, I will be probably releasing it by next coming week. Main intention is to replaced Diana, but since the color scheme is different from the Diana, I am not too sure whether I should release it as another new theme and continue improve Diana along side, or totally replace Diana with this.

Features of the theme

  • Usage of WordPress’s custom field (for the image in featured posts which will be auto rotating)
  • Two types of theme (one for using as CMS and another one for blog)
  • Support for several plugins out-of-the-box (lifestream, cforms, related/recent/popular posts and twitter-tools)
  • Widgets support
  • Dynamic Menu Highlighting (Unlike current Diana, only top level categories and pages will be displayed on the navigation)
  • Support for Version 2.7 (I will be doing the development on 2.7 and will do cross-testing with 2.6 as well)
  • No support for IE6 and below

Domain Privacy

Posted on October 24th, 2008 | Under Technology | (2) Comments »

WWWCurrently, you contact details such as phone number, fax number, address and email will be displayed whenever somebody perform WHOIS on your domain unless of course if you have bought the domain privacy service. It is a bloody requirement that ICANN request from whoever purchasing the domains (except for the .CA domains).

I am totally clueless why in the world ICANN post every details of the domain owner on the WHOIS record. I do not mind my email address from appearing there but clearly not my every other details such as addresses and phone number. So the only solution, buy a domain privacy service at around $10 to prevent my details from appearing. It should be a FREE service available to all the domain owners with option to switch on/off the listing of details.

Although lots of people talk about online privacy now a day (especially on Google and all the various social network), not many has voiced out about the domain privacy.

My rant has been answered!

Yesterday, I ranted on Twitter regarding 9rules feeds. Every feeds that come from 9rules only have title without any excerpt about the post and it is sometimes a pain in the ass for lazy bum like me to open up the link from my RSS reader (especially when I am on iPhone) to view the article.

To my surprise, somebody from 9rules (Tyme White) actually picked up my twit and blogged about it with a reply to why 9rules does not enable summary for the feeds. The points that Tyme mentioned are logical but I still think it is a ploy by 9rules to get readers to actually visit the site instead of just browsing the articles with feed readers.

Regarding excerpt, site like mine offer full article via feeds (both image and text) so I do not think an excerpt is necessary.
